Linear streaming service FilmOn TV Networks is adding a bundle of Spanish-language video and audio channels to its lineup through a partnership with Oi2 Media Corp, a move that continues to line up FilmOn with Hispanic market competitors like YipTV, mitu, and others.
“We are committed to becoming [the] go to streaming service for Spanish speaking audiences all over the world,” said FilmOn founder and CEO Alki David, in a release. “With Oi2, we will serve — and expand — the fastest growing audience sector online.”
Oi2 Media distributes Spanish-language radio programming from a number of major providers including Univision, CNN, ESPN and the Associated Press, as well as web television content. FilmOn will be making these radio programs available soon along with several music channels including exa-FM, La Mejor, Azucar Hits, Synderes, and both the music and video channels for Alma, for a total of 51 streaming channels. Within 90 days, FilmOn will add 25 television streams and 100 music channels from Oi2 Media’s distribution service.
This new partnership is just the latest addition to FilmOn’s Hispanic-focused content offerings. In January, the provider teamed with Oscar de la Hoya to offer two of his boxing-themed channels, The Ring Channel and The Golden Boy Channel, for free.
FilmOn also is targeting the youth market overall with its music video and music streaming offerings. Beyond its Spanish-language additions via Oi2, the service teamed with Endemol and Hologram USA on live-streamed holographic performances.
The streaming service’s eclectic content portfolio also includes CinemaNow, the once-defunct transactional video on demand service previously owned by Best Buy, which it purchased in January for an undisclosed amount; and OVGuide, a content discovery platform it purchased for a reported $10 million in May that could improve search and recommendation on the FilmOn site.
